Common questions about building in Ecuador, navigating the process, and what to expect when you work with me.
What types of projects are your specialty?
My preference is residential construction. I also do renovations and additions as well as swimming pools, ponds, security and video surveillance systems, off grid solar systems or backup systems for power outages and safe rooms.
What types of materials do you use?
For walls I build with bricks, concrete blocks, adobe or rammed earth. I’ve also built several structures locally with a steel, foam and welded wire wall system which I finish with either a cement plaster or earth based plaster. Roofs, windows, doors, flooring, etc. are whatever the client wants.
Do I need a set of building plans?
The short answer is yes. I learned a long time ago, building without plans is a recipe for disaster. If you have plans I can review them to make sure they are correct and complete. If you don’t have plans one of my bilingual architects can create them for you.
Who does the work?
My team consists of local craftsmen that have been working with me for years. This includes carpenters, masons, metal workers, plumbers and electricians. I am on site daily to direct the work and make sure that materials are delivered as needed.
How much does it cost to build?
It depends on a variety of factors such as the design, location, type of construction and finishes. I work closely with my clients to help them select materials in keeping with their design goals and budget — see exactly how I bill on How I Work.
